#09 PERIQUE TOBACCO ( USA Heirloom-Louisiana )
Perique is a type of tobacco from Saint James Parish, Louisiana known for its strong, powerful, and fruity aroma, it's dark, black color and unique flavor when cured. Tobacco was originally cured by stuffing it into hollow logs until fermented. Perique is a spice tobacco, usually used in Virginia blends. It has a dark, oily appearance, when cured and a taste of pepper and figs. Its flavor is a little strong, so it is usually found mostly in blends. It can be smoked straight, but isn't intended to be. Being acidic, it tends to alleviate alkaline tongue bite, which is so often a problem with Virginia tobacco, so it is recommend to blend this with your cigarette blends. One of the most popular cigar varieties for home growers. Will grow 6-7 ft. tall. Cured leaves have a reddish to light brown color. Cured leaves have a silky texture like long rye that makes a good covering for cigars. Has a pleasant, mild aroma and taste much preferred for cigars. Also can be smoked in pipes or chewed.

#63 WISCONSIN SEEDLEAF-SOLD OUT Nicotinia (recommended for cigars)
Originated in the late 1700's in Wisconsin and the large leaf plant was deemed superior as a cigar wrapper and highly prized by the large German population. A lot of growers use this for a cigar binder, which it is excellent for, but a blend of Wisconsin Seedleaf and Havana 503 makes for a smooth, delightful pipe tobacco that is easily flavored with food flavorings. #10 Common Indian Tobacco ( Rustica )(recommended for northern growers and containers)
A half hardy annual that grows to about 3 ft. and is cultivated worldwide for smoking and nicotine production. Has copious pale green flowers that remain open during the day. For me, it was my earliest flowering tobacco plant and is a great tub or container plant. Heirloom variety and seeds can be saved for future harvests. Caution: High in nicotine, makes a great all natural insecticide. Can be absorbed through skin so caution around pets and children warranted.
